Group awareness and organizational awareness are two of the most important concepts in the workplace today, and both can be easily applied to all areas of business. Though they’re often used interchangeably, there are several differences between these terms that you should understand in order to leverage their power at work.

In this article, we’ll take a look at what group awareness and organizational awareness really mean, as well as how to get the most out of building organizational awareness into your own workplace environment.

Start By Getting To Know Each Other

The organizational development process is a specific type of change management process that attempts to help companies make fundamental changes in their operations. It typically focuses on a transitional period in which the company is moving beyond its existing paradigms and operating practices.

The process begins with a dialogue with the corporate management team. The focus is on identifying current key outcomes of the business (for example: customer satisfaction, growth in the market, new business, technological innovation, etc.).

The basic idea behind the process is to inquire into and identify the dimensions of the business that are the most important drivers of its current performance. The goal is to ensure that the company is focusing on the right areas of performance and that it is also appropriately rewarding the most important activities.

In order for organizational awareness to exist, there needs to be an understanding of the individual's self-awareness and organizational development. Self awareness refers to an individual understanding their role and place within the organization.

This includes understanding the types of skills they possess, their value proposition, their potential strengths and weaknesses within an organization, as well as career aspirations. Organizational development refers more broadly to the knowledge employees need in order work well with others including collaboration skills and empathy skills.

Change is inevitable in any organization and when people are aware of how it impacts them personally and collectively, a sense of security emerges.

Self-Awareness: One way to create organizational awareness is by implementing changes that help team members understand how their role can change in the company or in other term to be self aware. They should also be made self aware that their ability to do things may change over time due to these changes.

Role Of Change: Communication during periods of change should focus on how it will affect everyone not just individuals and the team dynamics.

Have A Plan For When Things Go Wrong

It's inevitable that things will go wrong. That doesn't mean the end of your business, it just means you need to have a plan for when things go wrong. In case of an emergency, it's best to be prepared and have a plan set into place for what should happen when something goes wrong.

Don't forget about the role of change- make sure that employees are aware of changes that may come up so they can prepare themselves and be ready for what might happen next.

Establish Contingency Plans

To increase group awareness, create a contingency plan. This plan should outline who is responsible for various tasks that might occur and what they are going to do if something goes wrong. For example, if there is an issue with the servers, the person on call will be notified immediately. If they can't resolve the issue or don't know how to fix it themselves, then they will contact someone else who can help them.

There should be multiple people available at all times so if one team member is unavailable, another team member has to take over. It's also important that the manager make sure this plan is up-to-date and regularly reviewed by everyone involved so people always know who to go to when problems arise.

Take Time To Celebrate Wins And Learn From Losses

One way to improve group awareness is by taking time to celebrate wins and learn from losses. It's important for a company's culture and morale that employees feel like their voices are heard, which can only happen if they're empowered especially for the high performing teams. In order for the company to succeed, it needs the whole team to be on board.

If employees don't feel like they have a say in what's happening, not only will this impact productivity, but also lead to high turnover rates. Investing in your people through clear communication will help everyone know what the end goal is, so you can all work towards achieving that goal together.

Hold Frequent Retrospectives

One of the best ways to improve group awareness is to hold frequent retrospectives. A retrospective is a meeting where everyone on your team comes together and looks back at what they have accomplished and how they can do better next time.

It is important that this meeting be held often because you will see areas that need improvement and by holding a retrospective before an event, you are able to fix those problems before it becomes too late(ProductPlan, 2022). In addition to these retrospectives, having frequent communication as a company culture enables the company to improve group awareness further.

Setting goals together is a great way to bring employees and managers together to form a better team. It helps everyone feel like they are part of the team, on the same page, and with a shared purpose.

-Find out what's bothering your employees and address their concerns as quickly as possible

Have ‘Plan B’ When Problems Arise

We all know that things won’t always go as planned. It’s not the end of the world when something doesn’t go right, but it can be stressful if you don’t have a plan b. Here are some ways to improve group awareness so you can put your best foot forward and keep problems at bay:

The focus is on identifying current key outcomes of the business (for example: customer satisfaction, growth in the market, new business, technological innovation, etc.). The basic idea behind the process is to inquire into and identify the dimensions of the business that are the most important drivers of its current performance. The goal is to ensure that the company is focusing on the right areas of performance and that it is also appropriately rewarding the most important activities.

There are 8 process involved in the organization development process namely Problem identification, situation assessment, action planning, plan implementation, data gathering, result analysis, getting feedback, and repeat.

Section 3: The strategic role of change in the organization

The strategic change in the organization is defined as a planned change in the organization’s fundamentals that affects the organization's goals, objectives and internal market environment in the group. The strategic change establishes a new competitive position and shapes the context in which the group operates(Team, 2021).

In the end, the competitive advantages that the new organizational structure provides directly affect the organization’s objectives and performance measurement. The strategic change is the opposite of concurrence, which occurs when the organization does not change its fundamental characteristics. The strategic change is the strongest influencer regarding the structure of the organization and its performance and is actually the most important internal influence.

The strategic role of change in the organization is rarely considered in the initial stages of an organization. Changing your organization is difficult and takes much effort, particularly when it comes to making sure it is efficient as well as effective. This article has a couple strategic takeaways that can help you change your business into something more effective and efficient.

The impact of strategic change in organizational performance

The impact of strategic change in organizational performance is backed by evidence that strategic change is a "necessary but insufficient" condition for organizational performance. Without strategic change, organizations are not likely to sustain increased levels of performance. However, it is not sufficient for sustained performance.
